FURTHER DETAILS:
Second Site is an exhibition showing artist books made by 8 diverse artists/collectives from around the UK.
The book works in the show have a particular and unifying distinction in that they are all anchored to, extended from or pivoting around a second, separate artwork or artefact made by the artist. They are, as such, a new site of enquiry springing from the first work.
Ranging in inspiration from ancient forest ecosystems to a found personal diary, cathartic anonymous poetry, performative walking experiments, sensory art, subverting the domestic, transplanting the studio, and the effects of a place on people, the books will be shown alongside their counterpart works of art. There will be a reading space (and tea) set out for gallery visitors to enjoy a quiet interlude of restorative peace, looking at the books themselves in detail.
Curated by Amber Mottram and Lisa Tustian for Cable Collective.

Artist panel discussion: Second Site // Making Connections
Saturday 24th January, from 4.30 - 6pm
A conversation around the ideas underpinning the exhibition and how these inform the artworks and the artist books associated with them. Aiming to explore and draw out themes and connections between the artists and their works, with informal and inclusive discussion between the curators, Amber Mottram and Lisa Tustian, other exhibitors and audience members.
All are welcome and this is free to attend with a ticket (see button below)
Workshop: Second Site // Confessional (with Jane Fletcher)
Tuesday 27th January 6 - 7.30pm
Exploring the cathartic anonymity of posting intimate words online, away from face to face presence, this workshop is a playful, creative and collaborative space to consider Instagram as a distanced platform for a confessional art practice, with time to develop your own work, based on personal experiences, emotions and memories.
All are welcome (suitable for age 16+) free to attend with ticket (see button below).
